Raila Odinga in the T.C. |
Raila Odinga is coming to the Twin Cities (known from now on as T.C.) for an "evening of political engagement". I am going to help my brother move on that evening so I won't be able to attend, but that is my excuse what is yours? I would hope everyone that is able to make is will be able to come out and see one of Kenya's presidential hopefuls and get some interesting insights.
Don't get it twisted though, this is not an endorsement of any kind, not that it would matter either way. Some of my good friends are intimately involved in bringing Raila over to the T.C. but personally I don't know whether if I had the opportunity whether I would go.
Firstly I want to point out that I have been detached from Kenya and her politics for a while now... but I can make some conclusions from Raila's actions over his political résumé. It was quite a fete trying to oust Pres. Moi during the 1982 failed coup in which Raila takes some responsibility for, but from then no matter how many achievements he has made in and out of parliament some of his behavior is lacking. What is most notable is the constant party switching & from the looks of it for the power trip...from FORD to FORD K to NDP to "getting into bed" with Moi & KANU (remember this is the guy who detained you for 6 years without trial) to LDP to NARC and now I think it's ODM. It's clear to me that his hunger for power has led him on this rather colorful reading list of Kenya's political parties. A case can be made that he has be screwed over by some of his comrades but then again this still reflects badly on him and his lack of perception about those he calls political allies & friends. If he really can't differentiate friend from foe then he is not ready for the big seat. I know he is not alone playing Party Hopscotch in Kenya but then again I feel he has been the most colorful. |

Need Clarification Please |
| So with the Presidential elections in Kenya in the near future I thought I might polish up on what exactly the funk is going on back there. So I read that ODM is fielding 6 heavy hitters for the big seat. So I just want to know how these fools are collectively going to choose the main runner for the Presidential Election with ego's as big as theirs? Let me know how this process is going to work or better yet let me know how they are going to crash and burn! |

The Failed Student |
| Yeah so I just flossed for the first time in like weeks and I seriously found last months BBQ, still yummy!
So Raila says he was part of this failed coup, dude way to f*ing shout out that you got an f*ing F in Coup 101. Should Wako procecute...dude he already got an f*ing F! that is embarrassing enough.
Apparently Baks (or honourable Mwai Kibaki as he likes to be called sometimes) has gathered some momentum over Kalonzo & them.... do I give a fudge...not really shit I am half shit faced right now. Vote for Kibaki is what I say, wait no Kalonzo...zee Uhuru...no no no the failed coup general. Like I said I really don't give a rats ass, the fact the different people are stealing from the government does not make it the right government. Until someone who I know personally is taking that cheddar (and hopefully passing some my way) I cannot stress. Corruption is everywhere, deal with it, watch Syrianna from the highest government officials to freaking who's Mommy's best child, it's all over. |

Payback Is A Motherland |
|
So I was chillin just about to read my email when I suddenly had to take this massive crap ....which I did. Anyway many minutes later, & definitely feeling relieved, I venture into the clutter that is my inbox. I was taking a quick glance to see what the email filter did not catch this time, & see whether any employer had been enticed by my online resume (no there were not takers & shhh, don't tell my current employer) when I noticed an email from a good friend Eva G. Now Eva wants to save the world & one day she will & I was thinking to myself which worthy cause is she telling me about now, I was kinda hesitant since it was kinda late but like I had just mentioned I had taken this lovely crapper so I was fearless. The email simply stated, "thought you would be interested in this article" & so I read. The article was titled "Payback is a Motherland" published in our very own Minnesota's City Pages Magazine. The article reads pretty easily & talks about the roots of Hip Hop the influence it has in Africa & vice versa & then what is this I see..... DJ Xpektt! Peter Kerre is not new to the media, a few years ago I remember the E.A Standard doing a full spread on him & his work here in the U.S. That has come with both it's advantages and disadvantages, but I like the fact that though short, the article expresses what Peter's vision is, that ever elusive unification. What I love about this article is the fact that it is local, local to what is experienced here in Minnesota. When the article goes into the Somali fights at the parties & the separation between East & West African in the music scenes, it brings up all to familiar memories (remember that Soma who was trying to swing on my neck...by gone's). Baraka also has a say on the article, with a more recent experience with Kenya, we hope that reflects in his music. Check out the article. It's a great read & thanks Eva. Talking about other Kenyans being in the news, Jojo was in the Tribune or was it the Pioneer Press....not sure really. Some crazy lady brings newspapers to work, but kudos to Jojo for catching the attention of the Minneapolis night life watchers when they did a rather interesting article about him & "Klub Africa". States Of Confusion |
| In the April 2006 issue of Wired Magazine, Kenya's current government was rated as being feeble or absent, no shit check it out & seriously are you surprised. Compared with the rest of Central Africa we are pretty much making the curve but in Eastern Africa we were out shined by Ethiopia, Eritrea (haven't these 2 countries being having a secret war for years?) & Uganda. Southern African countries like Namibia & Angola are out of the red. According to the findings the main reasons for a decaying government... crime, corruption & poverty (I think Kenya would score highly in each of those categories...ps that is not a good thing). Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria & Egypt are all doing better than us (time for a Muslim government you think?). What does this all mean you ask me, nothing really, I was bored grabbed the nearest magazine & this popped out at me!
Kenya Moto
There is a ray of light out there... & it's in the name of Kenya Moto. Details about the hottest thing to happen to Kenya coming soon. |
